The Bachlorette and Dara Torres

We interrupt this week in womens Independence to ask WHAT THE #$&@*!!!!
If you haven't heard already the bachelorette chose the Snowboarding, pink shoe-lace wearing, long hair having, Jesse. I think her parents we are shocked as I was. They have set the date of May 9th 2009 in the Bahamas so I am going to start looking for a dress now. I seriously cannot believe it.

In other news of actual Independence and not INSANITY:
Dara Torres is going to the Olympics. This woman is incredible and I'll tell you why:

1. She's 41.
2. She's a mom of two year old, Tessa Grace.
3. She's been to the Olympics not one, not two but it will be five times and won 4 gold medals, one silver and four bronze.
4. She broke the world record 3 times for the 50 meter freestyle during the early 80's.
5.Her Olympic span is now 24 years.
6. She broke them American records for the 100 meter freestyle and the 50 meter at the finals this year.
7. She set her first record at 15 years old and now again at 41.
8. She won a gold medal 15 months after having her first child.
9. She's hot.
10. She attended Harvard Westlake school in Los Angeles! her swim records still remain!

This weeks comments have been off the charts amazing and I so appreciate the thought provoking discussion.

Tomorrow I ill tackle my last criteria for being an independent woman, taking care of yourself. I suck at this one so it should be good.

ok I'm gonna tell you my opinion on Dara because I know you're DYING to know it! :)

First off, I thought the same thing as you, I liked the other guy but then something hit me- after realizing it was my husband for even thinking about that other guy (whose name I already forgot), I realized that the other guy was so freaking intense and so obviously desperate for a connection, it completely turned me off. In the words of my husband (trying to imitate Chandler and add a British accent to it)- could he BE more boring? and I totally loved the lawyer guy.

And to go on air and say his son is a whatever the hell he called it!?!? I would have never and while single, I never said my daughter was my baggage or my liability. She is part of me- love it or leave it.

Anyways as you see is a sore spot- I'm glad she picked big nose/big hair guy- and do you think they could have fished for the wedding endorsement a little more? ;)

I've never watched a reality show in my life but..

Skater boys tend to be pretty damn hot. I <3 piercings.

Go Dara! I was so impressed that she's going back, yet again, to the Olympics. As for Jesse, I really like him, but they just don't seem to fit. Jason seemed like a "clinger" to me. I liked Jeremy the best and then Graham, but Graham had issues. Reminds me of an EX boyfriend. I think Deanna does, too. I just don't know about the May wedding. We shall see. And Jeremy was sooo hurt. It killed me to watch when he went back to talk to her.

Looking forward to your post tomorrow since I am spending my summer in the car--working on changing that.

The mind gets cloudy sometimes when it comes to men.

I think part of the drama and shock of Bachelorette was the way the producers edited the show. I just think there's something wrong when you set a wedding date so soon and it's so far away. I am LOVING Dara. What a stud(ette).

I was very shocked that DeAnna picked Jesse, too. But whatever floats her boat. I was just so sad to see Jason, the single father, get rejected. I went to abc.com and recommended that he be the next bachelor. Although, my husband reassured me that after this, Jason is going to get so much tail (my husband used another word that is inappropriate for civilized mommies like us!) from being on this show...so I certainly hope he finds happiness.

P.S. My husband makes all the money-and it kind of bums me out. I've been out of the work force for 9 years. Scary.

Have you heard any updates on the bachelorette? I thought they would appear on a show or in a magazine.
