Hillary Thomas Has A Bollywood 40th!

I was lucky enough to attend Interior Designer Hillary Thomas's 40th birthday party last week. All I can say is Namaste!

The night began as I was greeted by a man in a turban, telling me to select my bindi and take as many sparkly bracelets as my arm could hold. This was not a bad start, but as I walked up the candle lit garden path I could not believe what was coming in to view. Paradise.

Hillary decided to host 80 girlfriends for an evening of pure decadence and thus turned her back yard into a balmy night in India. We, her lucky guests, sat on colorful pillows, sipping drinks and dining on Indian food all while a Bollywood movie played behind us. It was divine. I had to ask Hillary a few questions:

1) What made you choose the Bollywood theme? I LOVE color & I wanted to celebrate Harem style with the great ladies in my life! I LOVE Indian food & big flowy comfy clothes!!

2) What do you feel is your design point of view? Have fun. Use color & texture with abandon. Mix & match & layer is my motto!

3) What's one thing someone can do to really transform a room? Accessories & art really do wonders. Also – color or wallpaper on the walls is a must. And have fun with the ceiling – often times people forget it's even there!

Not So Fabulous Forties- My Eyes Are Going!

Imagine having perfect eyesight for 40 years and then whammo! Suddenly I cannot read things up close and my vision is blurry! I mean WTF.

This fabulous forty thing is something I subscribe too. I enjoy all propoganda to this end. I even have my forty things to do before forty list going. Do you? Start one! Here's my whole blog dedicated to it!

Anyhoo, so when I notice my eyes are going bonkers I am not thrilled to say the least. Suddenly I imagine I am going blind (dramatic screenwriter here) and will need friends and family to cart e around with my walking stick. I head in for my first eye exam. I ask husband, who has been wearing contacts for years, how this is going to go. I don't want someone touching my eyeball. I mean that is yucky. He assures me nothing bad will happen. Hmph.

At the eye doc, he does all these tests, can you see the shaky line, can you read these letters, how about now? Now? NOW?

The good news? My eyes are healthy and my general eyesight is 20/20. Bad news? I need glasses for computer (which I am on 29 hours a day) and for reading (who has time to read a book?). This is made more upsetting by the fact that my mother has readers and this will be added to the list of ways I am turning into her. But that's a whole other post.

How are your eyes?

Forty Things To Do Before Forty- Carol Burnett

I interrupt baby week to tell you that I went to see my idol, Carol Burnett last night. She was in LA for the first time, on stage with Tim Conway. They talked and joked, Tim Conway was in rare form. Then they took questions. I scurried to the mic but alas there was no time. They took questions, and then a line longer than two football fields to sign her new book This Time Together. (Mr. bought one signed for me). The book is about her co stars through the years and her life.

So on my Forty Things To Do Before Forty List was to MEET Carol Burnett. I'm afraid it's still on the list. I just have to find a way to get to her. She was gracious and lovely though, everything you'd expect. She has 23 emmys, produced her own show when no one else had, and gives all the credit to her co stars and writers. No wonder I love her.

What's on your Fabulous Forty list? I am giving myself my whole fortieth year to complete my forty! I better get a move on!

40 Year Old Mid Life Crisis? Where Is Carol Burnett?

What is it about forty that feels like an end? End of youth? End of dreams? End of the good times? I am telling you the Mrs has been down in the dumps. It could be all the lack of shopping now that I am on a BUDGET. No, I think it's more...

Forty Things To Do Before You're Forty- First Challenge!

Turning forty seemed a little bit like a day of reckoning for me. I was feeling like I had not accomplished things I had set out to do, and was not exactly where I wanted to be financially, career wise, and personally. It was my mother in law who put it in perspective...
