The Mrs Likes....Ken Done
While in college I came to know about Ken Done, the artist from Australia. He had a store near our school and I walked by it all the time staring at the colorful art, prints and T-shirts inside.
Coming from a family of painters, my Grandmother and Mom could be a little snooty when it came to art. They HATED artists like Thomas Kinkead. (Have to say I am not a fan though). They thought he had no talent and was not a real artist.
Ken Done was selling T-shirts and umbrellas so I knew that maybe this wasn't going to be like having a Degas. One thing I have learned though, is that if you love something, you love it. No matter the cost or what it is. If it makes you happy to have it around then who cares what anyone thinks!
For years I tried to find prints of my favorite Ken Done painting, "Sunday". I loved that it has a view of the beach, a painters paints and brushes laid out (just like my mom and Grandmommie would do), and that it was called Sunday.
Finally, after stalking the Australian website, I bought one. Not a big one, but still a numbered print. This is really a dream come true for me. I can't wait to have it framed and hanging in my house!

Oh I love Ken Done.
Olivia Newton John used to have a store called Koala Blue (I think there was one on Melrose at one point). The artist behind a number of her items was Ken Done.
They are awesome! Very pretty. xoxo

Very pretty! Love it!
Good for you! That is the kind of thing I always want to do but am too cheap. I need to take the plunge.
Ken Done is cute. Very right for Southern California. Thomas Kinkeade, however, is dreadful. Your mom and grandmother are right:).
I love that picture. You are so right "if you love something, you love it." I have said that several times about different pieces of work in our home.
Can't wait to see it framed and where you choose to display it.
Yay! for you... Everyone should buy a peice of art they love!!
And I am with your mom and grandma on Thomas K. Hello??? His dumb pictures are on puzzles and calendars. He is to painting what Harlequin authors are to literature!
Hey Mrs! I left you an award on my blog :)
I love it. I also love that you will have it. Art needs to make you happy. Fabulous!
Memories....thanks for sharing!
Oh how I love Ken Done. I still have 2 bags that I bought when I was in high school.
