Things You Should Know By Now- How To Get A Law Passed

Haven't you ever said: "There oughta be a law about this!" I have. (for instance I think it's BS that health insurance companies in LA will not pay for fertility)
I realized I have no idea how to make this happen. So I did a little research.

1) Look For A Precedent- Save yourself time and energy by seeing if someone else has already started the ball rolling. Do a web search to see if similar legislation has been passed in another city or state. Take that wording a write a proposal for a law (one page max).

2) Get a catch phrase- be short and concise. Make the law impossible to pass up!

3) Make Friends With An Elected Official- In most cases a law must be proposed by an elected official. Go on line and learn about who in your area might have sponsored similar legislation in the past. Then do their homework for them by researching any relevant data, news, stories, and letters of support.

4) Do It Yourself!- If you'd rather do it yourself (and you may live in a state that allows this), then check your states secretary of state website for more information.

Get Involved! Vote!

What is it about voting that warms my heart so much? I just feel so American when I do. You think about the women that fought so hard for this right, and it is disrespectful NOT to vote!

Today we have Mommy and Me preschool class and I am dragging Landon to the polls before hand! I want to get my vote in! I know some people think it doesn't matter, but you can't complain about the way things are in this country unless you choose to speak up! I am voting on a bunch of different things and done my research. I am ready! Are you?

Last night my small group discussed the book we are reading together "The Shack". This book is a deep river I tell ya. It really delves into faith, or lack of faith, due to a terrible tragedy. It's brought up some amazing things.

Yesterday I got the call that the amnio was normal. I just cried! I was so happy. I know the sex...and will reveal on Friday!!!!!!!

Help A Child- Pass Bill 1738 the Child Protection Act

Did you watch the Oprah show recently about the incredible amount of child pornography on line?

It was horrifying. Hubby wouldn't even watch. I barely made it through but I am glad I did because O told us how we can help. The problem is there are not enough resources to follow all the leads of online predators. They even have the technology to tell which house the online porn is coming from but not enough staff to follow up.

Here's where you come in:

Write a letter to your senator.

You can do you're own written one or cut and paste this into an email.

To find your senator go to:

www.senate.gov

Find your senator by name or state and click on "web form" to send an email. You can cut and paste this in below:

Dear Senator:

I know that you believe, like I do, that we must do everything possible to protect children from sexual predators. That is why I am asking for your help.

Last year alone, U.S. law enforcement identified over 300,000 criminals who were trafficking in movies and pictures of young children being raped and tortured. Experts say that one in every three of these criminals has local child victims. Child pornography trafficking over the Internet has given us a trail of evidence that leads straight to their doorsteps, but the vast majority of these children will never be rescued because investigators are overwhelmed, outnumbered and underfunded.

As your constituent, I urge you to do everything in your power to pass the PROTECT Our Children Act (S. 1738, Biden-Hatch). This bipartisan legislation passed the House 415-2, but it is now the victim of petty partisan politics.

Now that we know where these children are and how to protect them, there is no excuse for the Senate to fail to take action this session.

Getting Involved- VOTING

This is an interesting way to see how your beliefs line up with the candidates. I still think it's too early to be committing but I found this really helpful so I wanted to share!
