80's Nostalgia week- Rock Lobster

If it weren't for music I think I would not know how to show emotion. Who hasn't put a James Taylor song on and cried their eyes out ("You've got a friend"....when you're down and troubled...and you need a helping hand...)

What good is a slide show, video or movie without the perfect soundtrack? Well if my high school days had a sound track it would go a little something like this:

1. Rock Lobster - the B52's

2. Break out- Swing out sister

3. Big Mouth- Sioux and the banshees

4. Shake the disease- Depeche mode

5. 99 Luft Balloons- Nena

6. When Doves Cry - Prince

7. Footloose- Kenny Loggins

8. Everybody Wants To Rule The World- Tears for Fears

9. Careless whisper- Wham!

10. Walk Like an Egyptian -Bangles

11. I wanna Dance With Somebody- Whitney Houston

12. Never Gonna Give you Up- Rick Astley

I love all the drama and emotion of those high school days. Didn't the world revolve around us? I think so.
What's on your high school soundtrack?

You and I are the same age and I would have the same soundtrack. I was wondering about Rick Astley recently when I heard his song in a dressing room. Ha! Break Out/ Swing Out Sister and When Doves Cry/Prince were my favs, too.

Gotta have some Loverboy and Flock of Seagulls! I LOVED "It's over" by Loverboy and "I ran" by Flock of Seagulls. I am loving your flashback week. I graduated HS in 1985 and college in 1989.

I loved The Violent Femmes and how about Fine Young Cannibals? What a stroll down memory lane. ;)

Great soundtrack!

I will have to give it some thought on what would be on my soundtrack...probably Baby Got Back - on of our favs from those Middle School Dances. I would have to have Green Day's Time of Your Life mixed in there too.

Along with those I would have a little Depeche Mode, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Dead or Alive, and Eurythmics. I am going to download right now!

OMG, I had such a 'nostalgic' feeling mentally playing those songs in my head!

Ones I would add:

Anything by Chicago
Some MC Hammer, New Edition,
and Boyz to Men (That girl is poison!)

I was cracking up while reading your list...I do believe there would be some Bananarama, the Smiths and the Cure on mine in addition to your fine selections!

Thanks for stopping by the other day -- I'm glad I found your blog, too!

The Cure for sure.

Most of the songs I think of have already been listed except Bryan Adams. I wasn't a big fan but when ever I hear his songs I have flash backs. Oh and I can forget Bruce Springsteen's Glory Days.

All of the above, plus of course a little Michael Jackson.

Mine would be so all over the place....Boyz to Men, REM, Drivin & Cryin, Motley Crue (???), Garth Brooks ...bizarre, I know!

I was just rocking out yesterday in my car to The Cars...."you're just what I needed". They remind me of my senior year 1980, riding around in my friend's Cobra (exactly like Farrah's on Charlie's Angels) with the windows down singing at the top of our lungs.

Fabulous post!! My soundtrack would be Motown - the Supremes, 4 Tops, Tempting Temptations. I could go on and on.

I used to do this as an activity with my students when I taught h.s. English. I had them do a project - The Soundtrack of My Life - beginning with birth up to age 15 or so. It was fabulous!

Fun post! Your soundtrack would be from my college years. I still listen to the music I loved in high school (Steely Dan, Journey, Boston, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, etc.). It's amazing how a song can instantly transport you to another time in your life.

How funny!!! This brings back so many memories.

I loved "I'll Stop the World and Melt with You" and "She's A Beauty" by The Tubes. I can't remember the song titles but the main lyrics were "Turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so" and "I don't want to work I just want to bang on the drums all day".

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
