It's visually stunning isn't it?
I can assure you NOTHING like this was going on in my pregnancies with Landon and Coco. The only weight lifting I was doing was lifting the huge forkful of fettuccine Alfredo into my mouth! Only because we're friends I will show you!
Uh huh. It doesn't help that the friend next to me looks like an Olympian. I digress.
I can understand the shock people have seeing this but there's one thing I know. She did not START weight lifting when she got pregnant. Clearly this woman has been doing this for a while. I'm sure her doctor is on board with it and she is being careful.
That being said you do HAVE to be careful when you're pregnant. The older I get the more horrifying stories I hear of people losing their babies. This would be way too extreme for me. Even if I did lift weights before I think I would stop.
Now that I think about it this woman pisses me off. She's pregnant and in better shape than me! UGH!!!!!
What do you think of this picture?

I had the hardest time working out when I was pregnant the first time. I had been taking Yoga classes and the last class I took before I knew I was pregnant almost did me in. I was a hot mess and didn't understand why that class was so difficult for me when it hadn't been before. Once morning sickness hit I was done and then with my second pregnancy the morning sickness was even worse and I was doing good just to make it through the day. I couldn't even imagine lifting weights! Yeesh!!
I was a little disturbed when I first saw that photo! With my first pregnancy I stopped doing any sort of exercise, it took me so long to get pregnant I was afraid if I sneezed too hard I would dislodge that little fetus! ;) But, after gaining 50 pounds with the first one and having to work like crazy to get it off, I changed my tune with the second and atually went to a step aerobics class(this was mid 90's) until the end of the 7th month. But no weightlifting for me.
I kept up my running for a while and then slowed to walking but that weight-bearing exercise looks like too much to me.
I take Body Pump classes and there are pregnant women in them pretty regularly. I agree - I think yoga and even cardio are probably fine but weightlifting seems a little scary.
It stopped me in my tracks! I was so paranoid about everything during my pregnancies....wow!
I think it is up to the person. I could not really exercise while I was pregnant as I felt terrible all the time but if someone feels up to it and their doc ok's it, I am not going to judge/worry about it. After-all in lots of countries women still are out working in the fields and doing all sort of manual labor until the moment their child is born.
She must be very strong!!!!
Never been pregnant, but if I ever was I don't think I would take the risk of weightlifting the way that woman has. I think the yoga and light cardio are good for baby and momma, but that type of weightlifting seems extreme and possibly dangerous.
Gave you a little shout out on my blog today. You left me a sweet little comment a few months ago that really helped me out during a tough time. : )
This seems a bit extreme, but if I guess if this is your normal routine and it's been cleared by your OB...
I worked out daily during my third pregnancy (last year). I was careful to watch my heart rate and worked with my trainer to modify exercises as necessary. The one thing I wish I had known was that the growing baby sucks the life out of your bones and you're more susceptible to breaks...I took a tumble at an exercise boot camp at 34 weeks and ended up needing wrist surgery :(
