Bye Bye Babystyle....

I went to the mall to do a little shopping for one of my good friends baby girls Sarah. She will be Coco's bestie for sure, boy is she cute!!!

At the mall, I could hear the air conditioning humming. I mean it was so empty and desolate it was like a little shopping ghost town! I went to Gymboree and bought this:

With the matching bag and sunglasses of course...and the headed to Babystyle to get some shoes for Landon. Only there is no more Babystyle! They were selling everything out of a half empty store and there was barely anything left. Whoa.

Then I walked to Hallmark and looked across the way to see Talbots GONE. Now I know these are tough times and we are scaling back, but how bad were things at these companies that they needed to close this soon? Were they all living on the edge? Apparently!!!

Here's the message at the Babystyle website:

"We're sorry but we have suspended internet sales from our site.

Babystyle is sad to announce that we have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. At this time, we will no longer accept online orders. Any pending orders that have not yet shipped have been cancelled and your credit card will not be charged.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the items seen on babystyle.com you may do so, in person, at any of our remaining locations. Please understand that due to this filing we are prohibited from accepting or issuing returns, babystyle Gift Cards and babystyle Merchandise Cards at any of our remaining stores.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time."

Circuit City, Linens and Things, Ritz Camera....the list goes on. What's happening in your town? Your mall? What have you noticed? I know this will all get better. It will probably make us better too. It is a little freaky though! I know that I am barely spending anything right now, not that I drove the economy before but if everyone stops shopping then all the stores will close. What is the answer? I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

I am probably spending the same, but I don't think my spending will change anything in the big picture! I haven't been to our mall is forever. I love online shopping, so the mall doesn't get as much of my business ;-)

I loved that place when Angry Toddler was a baby.

We went to Fashion Island in Newport Beach last night. It was sooo quiet.

I'm barely spending anything either. And stores are closing like crazy. It is scary.

Oh! NO! Not Baby Style!

SO many stores are closing in the UK. I feel bad especially for the independent retailers. We went to our local department store today and it was empty, but the stores don't seem to de dropping their prices too much - they need to, perhaps that would get things going a bit!

I loved Babystyle! How sad. I have noticed lots of closings when I have been out the past few months. Even at Target last week it was eerily quiet. It was a weekday but usually by 10 it starts getting busy - not last week.

Not to get all political here but if the govt would just shut up, sit down and give all these new bills & 'stimulus' time to work out things might get better (my opinion). People are fearful. It will get better for sure but it might take a while.

It's very sad.... I drive down the major strips in my area and for lease signs are EVERYWHERE! I can tell you first hand that times are tough for the small business owner and I am very thankful that I don't have a store rent to pay.

We've cut our spending mucho grande. Lots of stores in our area closing, but 2 new Sephora stores opened as did a Cheesecake Factory so I breathed a little sigh of relief there! (Love the bathing suit!)

I saw babystyle's message too and was so sad! Their online clearance sales were always SO good. BUT they're filing chapter 11, so hopefully they'll be back at it at some point!

Oh nooooo! We found more than one gift at Babystyle, that is a shame.

When we went to stock up on cosmetics Saturday, Nordstrom was not busy at all, on a Saturday afternoon. The shopping mall also looked fairly quiet, a reflection of the harsh realities it seems.

I have no answers--our BabyStyle closed gosh, almost a year ago--and I was so sad. That's where I always get my cute baby gifts and were I was planning to get my cute baby stuff for when I have kids, but nooooo. So sad!

It definitely is rough out there. I have been laid off since 1/9 and there is hardly anything to even apply to. Stores are closing, friends are getting laid off. A little scary but maybe it will force many to get back to the basics in life and we can only go up from here. Hopefully!
