Hero Mother

I saw a hero Mother today. On the indoor playground at yet another mall (rain go away!) I watched as Landon jumped and rolled and had the time of his life. Then I saw her. She was walking along side of her 3 year old who was in a stand up wheel chair. She confidently strode behind him as he wheeled himself into the play area. He attracted a lot of stares. She didn't try to get all jokey and introduce her child, she let him have his moment. It broke my heart.

Sure enough Landon ran over to the boy. He looked at the cool wheels and put his scarred up right arm on the boys mothers arm. Hubby remarked how cool the kids wheels were. They shared a moment, a moment we rarely get, when we share the knowledge of what it's like to have a kid who's a little different. Landon is blessed his injuries weren't as severe, but it's hard to let the stares go by sometimes. I knew a little bit of how the hero mom felt.

The little boy wheeled past kids jumping and running to the wall where he could play with a bunch of spinning paddles. His mom was there to help him if he got stuck but she just followed.

I'm going to think of this hero mom when I am feeling sorry for Landon, or trying too hard to make a way in the world for him. She is brave enough to know life is tough, but that sometimes she has to let her son figure things out for himself. Brave huh? Now she can be your hero too.

Hero moms are very inspiring. You and your husband are raising a very special boy who has the gift of showing compassion at a very young age.

Hero mom for sure, touching story to tuck away when I feel sorry for myself. So sweet that Landon was one of the children that reached out to him. Proof of what a fabulous mom you truly are.
