Sisterhood of the traveling Mothers

I took Landon to an indoor playgym last week, it's one of his favorite places. He ran around and had the time of his life. I was feeling so exhausted and determined to let Landon have fun despite "the screamer" (yep, that's baby Coco's new name), that I was thrilled to see him smiling and laughing.

One thing I tend to forget (although having this blog helps so much!) is that Motherhood is a sisterhood. It's the ultimate sorority, where the initiation involves having a newborn and trying to raise a child without killing it, or worrying yourself to death over it. One day you are smiling and laughing and feeling lucky and the next day your son has put anti bacterial soap in his hair and your baby girl has pooped into her car seat. Oh, wait, is that just me?

Back to the indoor playgym. I talked to the other mom's, we shared our horror stories and laughed our heads off. We offered sympathy and sarcasm. It was a beautiful thing. Motherhood is way too hard to do alone. You need to get out and talk to other moms and know in your heart you are not alone and that you're going to make it.

So next time you see a fellow mother around town you can call her "sister", oh, and you can give her the secret handshake too.

The Mrs.

And it never ends. Saturday night I sat outside with my SIL and another friend (mom of four boys ages 20-26) and we commiserated about all the stupid things that boys do, starting in high school and into college years (oh, boy, I can't wait--J3's recent antics are only the tip of the iceberg according to these moms!). Sharing it makes you not feel so bad, your kids do things they're not supposed to and so do everybody else's. It's a lifelong sisterhood, that's for sure. Every state of motherhood brings different worries and challenges and nobody should face it alone.

So true. So true! And it's a club that until you join it, you have no idea how hard the initiation is.

Have a great day!

My kids are 19 and 21. I still remember the early days vividly. And when I see a mom with a screamer in the supermarket I always smile at her so she doesn't feel so alone. And then I try to make her baby smile::).

Too true! And funny. I appreciate my mum friends so much more now that I have a baby - they are so wise!

I did see little Coco on facebook, and she is GORGEOUS. CONGRATS! I just love babies! Worked as a nanny for years, so every time I see one, I turn to mush ;)

Would love to help with your blog. Just let me know when you're ready.

Those bread bowls are sick. That commercial, and the one for clorox that shows a mom dunking her baby's toys in bleach make me crazy.

Hope you had a fabulous mother's day!

Amen sister!

agreed! I had to chuckle when you said that Coco was good when others were around. I would lament my Lulu's fussiness to my parents only for her to be a dream baby whenever she was around them. Just what I needed to cement my craziness.

I remember being at Target or some other store and Boogie Boy would be screaming his head off. Some kind mommy would go past me and stop to tell me it wouldn't last forever. Those little things meant so much when I was tearing my hair out. It is definitely good to be with others in our "club"!
