Fabulous Nina Garcia! The One Hundred
I went to Saks yesterday for a looky loo and what is coming out for fall. I was not at all impressed with what I saw. I felt like everything was either an exact replica of the 80's, too futuristic and weird, or just too damn labely and flashy.
The older I get the more I like the classics. I found someone with some clout who agrees with me!
Nina Garcia, fabulous Columbian Goddess and judge on Project Runway, was on GMA yesterday morning and I just adore her. She understands women are overwhelmed by fashion. Trends can be mixed in but you need classic basics with which to build on!!! Here are a few of her must have builders:
#1. Jeans: forget the brand du jour, just try on a million pairs until you find one that fits great. Keep pockets close together on the back so that it has a slimming effect.
#2. The white shirt: has to be high quality and classic. Very versatile! Slightly over-sized and looking as much like a mens shirt as possible/
#3. Belts: Skinny belts for shorter people and wider for taller people is the general rule. Use to add a little color!
#4. Red lipstick: an instant classic
#5. Aviator sunglasses: been around forever and they will always be cool.
Nina has a new book out called : The One Hundred. May have to pick it up!

I couldn't agree more with your love of the classics. I have never been a trendy person. I'll take a turtleneck and a great pair of jeans over the latest new thing any day.
I hope you have a nice week!
I love the classic too! I live in jeans in the fall. With cute flats and cable crewneck sweater - it's pretty much my uniform! I am definitely going to pick this book up! I am a PR junkie anyway ;)
OMG, same here, I spent an hour in Macy's yesterday and left empty handed! I called a girl friend and compalined that I just hate the styles right now!
Thanks for the heads-up on the book. I may need to go get it myself.
Hi Sweetie...did I miss the address of my Preggy Partner, shame on me if I did. We may be evacuting soon, so I'd like to get my gift of to her.
XOXO
I saw her on GMA and she was so cute! Her tips were so practical and stylish. I am thinking about getting her book.
I've been meaning to buy that book, thanks for reminding me!
I'm a classic girl as well. Some of the styles are too far out there for me. I just saw a photo of Katie Holmes wearing baggy jeans that were tight rolled...oh my I will never go back to that look!
Karen
I love classics as well. There is too much 80's fashion going on right now for me!
Its all about classics, I think that fashion is usually about a fantasy but for everyday I like to keep it clean and neat.
have been missing out on so much and can't wait to catch up. Hope Landon is doing well!!!
Jeans and a white shirt....my favorite outfit. That way I can add color with shoes or jewelry. I am going to get this book today! Thanks for giving me a birthday gift idea for a stylish friend, who is struggling with "dressing for your 30s" when everything out there looks like it should be for someone 20.
Love it! I'll be picking up the book. It sounds great.
Have a great day!
Those are wonderful tips! I totally agree. Fashion goes in and out, but true style and classics never do. I love Nina on Project Runway!
Have a great day!
But NEVER sneakers with those jeans!
BTW, I love "A Southern Belle Primer." Hilarious.
I like those tips. I'll have to check out that book.
I haven't done much fall shopping yet, but I thought the spring things were pretty drab. There seemed to be so much brown, black and gray. I asked the lady at Nordstrom, "When are you getting your spring things in?" and she told me those were for spring. They looked just like winter.
Your sidebar tip about carrying stickers in your purse to entertain your toddler made me nostalgic for those days! Sometimes on car trips we'd give our kids a box of Band-Aids. They made a bit of a mess but they kept them occupied and happy for quite a while. Clean-up was easy too.
Has Landon had his first speech session yet? Be sure to let us know how it goes. :)
I can't wait to get this book....I am not even close to the 100!!!!!!
Love me some white shirts. Can't say I'm all that impressed with fall stuff either. Though I did take a quick spin through 2nd floor of Saks yesterday and saw an awesome Burberry black dress. to. die. for. Only $1000. Ugh.
