A History Of Lipstick- By One Fabulous Mom's MOM!

In honor of Mother's Day I am posting something my mother wrote to me when I asked what lipstick she and my Grandmommie wore. She may kill me but too late! Read on about A History of Lipstick.

My favorite lipstick is Estee Lauder's 'Coral Melon'. You know I'm hoarding what I have left! They don't make it anymore. I've always worn navy blue mascara; now that's hard to find!
I love perfume too. Dolce & Gabana "Light Blue" eau de parfume for summer; Ralph Lauren's 'Safari' other times. Other favorites now hard to find are Krizia' & Deneuve. When I was younger(14) I wore 'Miss Dior'. I can NOT live without my 'Aloe After Sun' moisturizer by Hawaiian Tropic. It was originally called 'Forever Tan' and my mother always used it!

Grandmommie (my Mother) always wore a "frosted coral" lipstick. I thought it made her skin glow, but maybe it was because she always cleaned her face every night with Pond's cold cream! She used rouge from a small tin container. I don't remember her using any foundation...You know her favorite perfume, 'Toujour Moi', but for special occasions she wore 'Shalimar' perfume.

Mam'ma (your great grandmother) used makeup by Helena Rubenstein, which smelled sooooo good! She always wore a pinkish lipstick. And pink pearls (She loved pink!). Her perfume was 'Arpege' by Lanvin. Every morning she would wake up, do stretching exercises; then take a shower ending with cold water! Once I saw an ironing board in her room and I asked her what it was for. Apparently she laid it flat on the floor, then lifted one side a few inches. Then she would lay on it with her head on the lower section...(circulation & back?) I have always wondered where she got this idea from: it's kind of like our "inversion" benches (Brookstone).

Recently I was looking for a night cream and came upon Estee lauder's 'Resilience Lift Extreme'.
Guess what it smells like?! Mam'ma's 'Helena Rubenstein' make up! (Cue angels singing!)
Ah, the memories!

Oh I really love this!! My Mother wears very little makeup, except as you say a bit of cream rouge on the cheeks, and her lipstick, always, she loves Chanel #5.

This is just precious! I still remember my Grandmother wearing red lipstick and I'll never forget the way she smelled. How wonderful to have this all written down so you can add to and pass to your daughter.

scent is so powerful! I really evokes memories . . . I am so loyal to my perfume. Coco by Chanel and Boucheron. It is not a luxury to me, it's a daily application!

Scent is so powerful! it evokes so many memories. I remember the perfumes my mother wore. We shared some of the same favorites. For me it is Coco by Chanel or Boucheron. All my sweaters have those scents on them.

Even if I don't wear any other make up, I ALWAYS wear lipstick. Because my grandmother has been known to say, "Dahlin', you need some cullah. You look a little dead." Can you believe it?!?! Love it...

Some people don't leave the house without mascara or lip gloss--for me it's lipstick!!! Don't you just hate it when the big companies change formula or discontinue a great color...I am shedding tears over some no longer available Prescriptives items! I just watched Gypsy with this actress you have pictured!!!

Interesting isn't it how little things like scents and visuals remind us of days gone by. Estee Lauder was and always be one of my all time favorites in the skin care and makeup department. Does the name Frosted Apricot ring a bell??!?

So fun to read. I loved watching my grandmother put on her creme rouge. I wear lip gloss to the gym (and mascara!) and am so upset that they discontinued my favorite. I also wear Light Blue. Just recently discovered it and love it so much!!

My 14 year old son bought me my first bottle of "Light Blue" when he was just 7 years old and I have been hooked ever since. He picked it out for me himself from the fragrance counter! He definately has style and class!
