Things You Should Know By Now- How To Get A Law Passed

Haven't you ever said: "There oughta be a law about this!" I have. (for instance I think it's BS that health insurance companies in LA will not pay for fertility)
I realized I have no idea how to make this happen. So I did a little research.

1) Look For A Precedent- Save yourself time and energy by seeing if someone else has already started the ball rolling. Do a web search to see if similar legislation has been passed in another city or state. Take that wording a write a proposal for a law (one page max).

2) Get a catch phrase- be short and concise. Make the law impossible to pass up!

3) Make Friends With An Elected Official- In most cases a law must be proposed by an elected official. Go on line and learn about who in your area might have sponsored similar legislation in the past. Then do their homework for them by researching any relevant data, news, stories, and letters of support.

4) Do It Yourself!- If you'd rather do it yourself (and you may live in a state that allows this), then check your states secretary of state website for more information.

Go Get 'Em!!!
